The Firendly Faces of FUJIFILM: Alastair Peebles

Known around the office as the printed-photo evangelist, Alastair is the Senior Category Manager of the Imaging Division (which explains his love for printed pics) and a passionate photographer.  Here's a special look at the man behind the title.

1. How did you end up working at FUJIFILM NZ

Photography runs in my family. I had been involved in camera retailing for several years when the opportunity to join Fujifilm arose. I leapt at the chance to get even closer to the action!

2. What do you love the most about your role?

Our team’s passion for photography is infectious, it’s impossible not to get swept up in it! What I particularly enjoy is ensuring that every New Zealander can quickly and easily print their photos.

4. You’re known as the photo printing advocate around the office, why’s that?

Unfortunately we hear about digital photos being lost all too often. It’s too late when they’re gone. Photos were made to be printed and looked at, not stored digitally on hard drives or in the cloud. Previous generations handed their photos down to us, and we treasure them. It is imperative that we continue that tradition for future generations. I want everybody to enjoy having a permanent collection of their favourite photos.

5. What type of photography do you enjoy taking the most?

My favourite is taking photos of my daughter Erika.

6. Can you share your favourite shot you snapped.

I took this photo shortly after Erika learned to crawl. You can almost feel the grass as she explores a new environment for the first time. I’m also proud that I finally managed to use zoom correctly!

7. What’s your number one tip to budding photographers?

Get down to the eye level of your subject, especially when photographing children or animals. I was lying on the grass when I took my favourite shot, capturing Erika’s experience of the world.
